Currently, more than 218,000 vertebrate specimen records from more than 11,300 localities around the globe are online. UCMP is reputed to have the largest paleontological collection of any university museum in the world. The vertebrate collection includes fossils and recent skeletal specimens as well as cast replicas of specimens from all continents and 72 countries.

We update taxonomy and check specimen identifications and associated information, but outdated names, mistaken identifications, and erroneous localities inevitably occur. We urge investigators to verify all data by direct examination of the specimens, and we appreciate notification of discrepancies (ucmp_data@uclink.berkeley.edu). Investigators are strongly encouraged to personally verify data before using it as a basis for publication.
