Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 849 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Downloads

Download the latest version of this resource data as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A) or the resource metadata as EML or RTF:

Project Data

The purpose of this project is to build capacity for institutions and organisations in the Pacific to mobilise and publish data. Specifically for VESS, the project is giving our organisation capacity and tools to publish the biodiversity data we are collecting currently and in the future including from a Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project.

Title Capacity building and data mobilization for conservation and decision-making in the South Pacific
Identifier BID-PA2016-0002-REG
Funding This project is the Vanuatu component of the Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project which is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The global project is supported by the Dugong Secretariat of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and project managed by Mohamed bin Zayed Species (MbZ) Conservation Fund. The project in Vanuatu is implemented by VESS and supported by the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation, the Vanuatu Fisheries Department and the Department of Tourism Data prepared and published under GBIF project "Capacity building and data mobilization for conservation and decision making in the South Pacific" - BID-PA2016-0002-REG with thanks to the John and Dave Foundation.

Study Extent Sightings of dugongs throughout Vanuatu

Method step description:

  1. Students and new graduates were training in how to conduct the CMS dugong catch /by-catch standardised questionnaire. the survey team traveled throughout Vanuatu conducting the questionnaire. The responses were collected on paper and then transcribed into an excel spreadsheet when back in the VESS office. Sightings and areas were drawn on paper maps during the questionnaire and transcribed to google earth once back at the office.
